reviews
“High Country takes you deep into the heart of Colorado’s rugged mountains, combining a rich, atmospheric setting with a gripping crime story. Postal weaves an intriguing tale full of suspense and twists. The mysterious tunnel, hidden secrets, and the blend of quirky small-town life make Alma a character in itself. I couldn’t put this book down once I started, and the sharp, well-developed characters kept me invested until the very last page. Highly recommend for fans of crime thrillers.”
Beautifully Written – A Mystery Worth Reading
“This book doesn’t just tell a story of crime and mystery – it captures the essence of life in a mountain town. Postal’s love for Colorado shines through in every chapter. The plot keeps you guessing, and the characters, especially the interim sheriff, feel authentic and well-rounded. Alma might be a small town, but it’s packed with secrets. The pacing was perfect, with plenty of moments that had me holding my breath. A must-read for anyone who enjoys a blend of crime, suspense, and natural beauty.”
Great Setting, Allows Reader to Go Deeper
“I really enjoyed the setting of High Country. The way the town of Alma is described makes you feel like you’re right there in the cold mountain air, surrounded by scenic views and hidden mysteries. The plot is solid, and the characters have depth, especially the protagonist. That said, I would like to read more from Postal, perhaps something where the thriller aspect is more intense, with a few more twists and a deeper dive into the characters’ motivations. It’s a good read, though, and I’d love to see what Postal does next.”
Small-Town Thriller with Big-Time Suspense
“High Country is a fantastic blend of crime, mystery, and a bit of western flair. The novel is set in a town so well-described that it feels like another character in the story. From the first page, I was hooked by the characters and the atmospheric tension Postal builds throughout. The mystery of the town’s strange past and the slow unraveling of the story kept me reading late into the night. The writing is tight, and the twists had me guessing until the very end.”
Enjoyable, with a Predictability that is SO refreshing
“I had a lot of fun reading High Country. The Colorado backdrop and the town’s mysteries were fascinating, and the characters were easy to get attached to. The plot kept moving, and while the suspense was well-built, I did find some parts a little predictable, but guess what? — that’s the best part about High Country! You LOVE it when you guess the plot points correctly! The writing was great, and the small-town dynamics really added something special to the book. If you love thrillers with a focus on setting and character development, High Country is a solid choice.”
